11 Reasons NOT to get in touch with Andrew to photograph your wedding.
Hahaha – yeah. A list of reasons why you SHOULD NOT get in touch. This is a serious read and will help you figure out if you want to spend maybe 16 hours of your wedding day with me 😉
Reason 1 – I’m not a quiet guy
I’m not the quietest person in the world, I like to enjoy my work and hence enjoy the weddings I photograph. This is my full-time mortgage paying job. So, I want to enjoy it and work with like-minded couples. If you don’t want a guy that will give you a hand with tips on your dress, going to the loo etc then don’t get in touch.
From a Google Review by Kate – “Ps. He has great presence on the wedding day. He makes sure that all your guests also get the perfect shot and will show others where the best place to stand is and how to get good lighting. Will happily let little ones look at the camera and take photos. Don’t forget to feed him jaffa cakes!”
Reason 2 – Pre-wedding photography.
Some people are nervous, it’s understandable. Some people have bad experiences of being in front of a camera (usually your mum ordering you to smile!). Some people just don’t think they are ‘photogenic’.
That’s why there is a pre-wedding photography session included in ALL my collections. To help you feel at ease, to help us get to know each other, to look around the venue together and discuss what photographs may be in your head for your wedding. If you don’t like the idea of meeting up with your wedding photographer at least once to have a play in front of the cameras, to walk around your wedding venue, to chat about ideas, form a wet weather plan etc then don’t bother to get in touch.
Reason 3 – I’m a photographer who helps.
That sometimes means I’ll get stuck in and help out when you need an extra pair of hands. Sewing brides into dresses? Ironing grooms shirts? Carrying the lippy around all day for touch-ups? Shoe polish? Eyelash glue? Hair grips & hairspray? Deodorant? Yeah, done all that and carry much more in my camera bags. It’s amazing what you need during a wedding.
If you don’t value an organised professional, I’m not the wedding photographer for you.
Reason 4 – Treasuring family memories
I love taking group photographs, whereas many wedding photographers shy away from them. They don’t take as long as you think if you are organised (and I’ll help you get organised) but they mean so much more after the wedding when you are looking back. Especially those who may not be around in a few years.
If you are not bothered about group photographs of your family and best mates and don’t want those memories, I’m not the wedding photographer for you.
Reason 5 – I can use natural light or I can bring my own.
What does this mean? Well living in the UK it gets dark early for 6 months of the year. No problem for me – I can use an external flash to give you a really dramatic and powerful wedding art. Do you want a late wedding? Again, no issue for me.
You can check my work and some you can instantly spot as being used with flash. Others… well, not so easy to spot. This means I can work in any and all weathers, and turn seemingly bland spaces into amazing spaces.
If you don’t want a range of amazing wedding photographs despite the weather or venue, I’m not the wedding photographer for you.
Reason 6 – No time frames
I flipping hate it when I see wedding photographers with “8 hours for £xxx or £10 hours for £xxxx”. Really? Like no wedding I have ever been to (close to 500) has followed a timeline so accurately that you could plan on having your wedding photographer there for a set time.
I pretty much shoot from prep – first dance, or if you are having fireworks or a sparkler exit until after then. It’s not about the time; it’s about photography. Some weddings I win and leave after 10 hours. Some weddings I lose and leave after 16 hours. Same price. Same service. Same experience!
If you want a wedding photographer who charges extra or leaves before the party starts, I’m not the wedding photographer for you.
Reason 7 – Wedding Art
Wedding photographs should be printed in my opinion. Waste of time getting outstanding Instagram busting wedding photographs if you don’t print them.
ALL of my wedding photography collections come with some kind of album or print package that is included in the price. And the digital images are included as well.
If you don’t value prints and the memories they bring back, I’m not the wedding photographer for you.
What’s included in my collections?
Reason 8 – Child-friendly.
Yeah, despite me having a nose like a child catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and preferring children to be seen and preferably not heard (up the chimneys or down the pits?), I love it when kids want to take photos with my cameras! Better yet we do a swapsy – they take a photo and then it’s my turn to take a photo with them in the photograph. I encourage the children of my couples along at the pre-wedding shoot – make it a family affair!
So if you don’t want your child to have fun at the wedding, if you don’t want them to be part of the wedding then don’t get in touch. Oh, I only charge double if any children under the age of 21 are present at the wedding.
(I was kidding about charging double. Just checking you read my blogs…)
Reason 9 – Jaffa Cakes
I love them. If you don’t like Jaffa Cakes or not prepared to bribe me with them at your wedding then I’m, probably, not the wedding photographer for you. 😉
p.s. Bring Jaffa Cakes along when we meet and if we get on and we both want to work together you get a 10% discount !! No Jaffa Cakes, no dicount. You have been warned.
(I’m not kidding about the Jaffa Cakes though. A box or two goes a long way to bribing me.)
Reason 10 – I’m really really fussy about how I like my cups of tea.
Seriously. Over the years I’ve had some of the crappest cups of tea ever made. I just like weak tea, no milk, no sugar. It’s not hard but just to make sure I made a video… p.s I actually loved the “Yummy Mummy” from Chloe’s mam!!!
Reason 11 – I’m the BEST bridesmaid you don’t have to buy a dress for.
Though to be fair if you did buy me a dress it would be a hoot taking your wedding photographs in it! (Maybe one of those “Bride Tribe” dressing gowns with Photographer on the back?)
On a slightly more serious note, it’s because I am with you all the time. I carry the stuff you can’t. I think of the little things you forget.
Reason 12 – You don’t get wedding photography with me – you get an experience.
I’m not perfect, I make mistakes (usually when it comes to invoicing. I’ll either invoice you twice or not invoice you at all!). But for me, making your day memorable for all the right reasons is why I’m there, and if you book me I am there from when you start your planning to long after the wedding is finished. That’s all part of the experience.
Check out my Google Reviews to see why.
Reason 13 – You don’t book me. I agree to work with you.
I make it a point to see every client who wants me to photograph their wedding. This is three people getting together to see if we like each other. It’s not all about you. It’s not all about me. I also realise that parents play a large part in the wedding sometimes, and if mums and dads want to chat with me I’ok with that as well.
I refuse to book 2 or 3 couples a year as I don’t feel I’m the right wedding photographer for them. Just as I don’t make the grade with several wedding couples I see – they turn me down.
Reason 14 – Price
I’m putting the price down??!! Yeah. I believe it is very important in any wedding. We all have a budget. Some are large budgets, some are small budgets. I’m not cheap…but I’m not expensive either. The lowest wedding photography collection I offer is currently £1,175 before the Jaffa Cake Discount. For that you get…
- 27 years experience, 14 years full time.
- No time limits on your wedding days.
- Pre-wedding shoots.
- A limited number of weddings per year to keep the quality high. And exclusive.
- Extra help from me on the day.
- Fun and relaxed presence at your wedding.
- A mixture of natural, candid, created moments and dramatic.
- Wedding albums included.
- Same day slideshow.
- Natural, candid, relaxed, documentary, created moments and dramatic wedding photographs.
- I don’t stop when it gets dark, I just create amazing night time images for you both.
- Prices fixed at the time of booking irrespective of how far in the future you get married.
- Merchant account invoice system used with full details provided.
- Ability to pay via instalments or lump sum if required.
- Contracts (probably one of the longest for a wedding photographer) setting out exactly what you get and what it costs etc.
- The usual insurance stuff that any professional would have.
I think all of that is a good deal. According to Hitched Magazine for all of the above In should be charging in excess of £3,000! So, maybe next year my prices will increase.
And, ‘cos I know how bloody hard it is financially at the minute, my booking fee is reduced to £150 from £300.
Reason 15 – I’m a Sole Trader and It’s my full-time job
Why is this a reason? Well, it seems to be a trend for wedding photographers to open up Limited Companies recently. This means if they screw your wedding up they can walk away without too many worries, whereas If I screw up you can sue me and take my house if I lose. I don’t have another income to fall back on. My wife is self employed as well so she can’t really support me either.
So I have a very BIG vested interest in ensuring every single wedding I photograph I do the very best I can.
…And finally…Answers to some questions you may have!
